Pilot Programme
Pilot 3: Leadership, Kindness & Making a Difference
Children and Family Pilot Programme | Key Stage 2, approximately ages 8–10
Pilot 3 focused on leadership, kindness, teamwork and making a positive difference in the community. Children were given practical opportunities to lead, listen, communicate clearly, take responsibility and work together towards a shared goal.
What the Children Experienced
A Practical Journey Into Leadership
A Calm and Welcoming Start
Word searches and colouring helped children settle into the session while sharing materials, cooperating and building positive peer relationships.
Understanding Leadership and Kindness
A short group discussion explored leadership in an age-appropriate way. Children learned that leadership is not only about being in charge; it also involves listening, encouraging others, communicating clearly and helping a group succeed.
Experiencing Leadership Through Play
During Simon Says, every child had an opportunity to lead the group. Children then reflected on the importance of giving clear instructions, listening carefully and taking responsibility.
Community Poster Team Challenge
Working in two teams, children created posters about littering and keeping the community clean. They developed slogans, facts, images and practical actions for families. Leadership was shared and rotated so that different children could guide parts of the activity, organise tasks and encourage participation.
Inclusive Participation
Children contributed according to their ages, abilities and strengths. Some developed detailed facts and persuasive messages, while others contributed through drawing, colouring, images and shorter slogans. Every contribution supported the shared team outcome.
Presenting to Parents
Each team presented its completed poster to parents. Children took turns speaking, explained their ideas and responded to questions, strengthening their confidence and communication skills.
Celebrating Participation
Children received participation certificates, and parents were recognised for their involvement, bringing the session and pilot programme to a positive close.

Learning and Impact
From Talking About Leadership to Practising It
The session moved children from talking about leadership to actively practising it. Through play, teamwork and presentation, they experienced leadership as listening, organising, encouraging others, sharing responsibility and communicating with purpose.
The community theme also helped children recognise that everyday actions can make a positive difference. By exploring littering and caring for shared spaces, they connected personal responsibility with the wellbeing of their families and local community.
Overall Evaluation
A Meaningful Introduction to Leadership and Community
Pilot 3 provided an engaging, age-appropriate introduction to leadership, kindness and community responsibility. The practical activities enabled children to build confidence, contribute in ways that reflected their strengths and experience the value of working together. Presenting to parents reinforced their learning and created a meaningful connection between children, families and the wider community.
