Pilot 2 helped children strengthen their communication, active listening, confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills through practical, age-appropriate activities.
The session gave children an immediate and enjoyable way to recognise that a message may not always be understood as the speaker intended. They explored the importance of giving clear instructions, listening carefully, remaining patient and asking questions when something is unclear.
How the Session Worked
A Progressive Journey of Learning
Pass the Smile
A relaxed group icebreaker that encouraged confidence, social interaction and non-verbal communication.
Paper Aeroplanes
Children designed and tested paper aeroplanes, introducing creativity, participation, friendly competition and learning how to respond positively when outcomes differ.
Listening Challenge
In pairs, one child described a picture while the other drew it without seeing the original. They compared results and exchanged roles.
Family Involvement
Learning Together at Home and School
Parents also completed the activity with their children. This extended the learning into the family environment and encouraged children and parents to consider how better communication can support relationships at home and at school.
Recognition
Celebrating Effort and Learning
Every participating child received a certificate recognising their involvement, effort and learning. Parents who took part were also recognised for supporting the session.

Confidence From Both Perspectives
Children confidently experienced communication from both perspectives: speaking and listening. Comparing the completed drawings helped them see how easily information can be interpreted differently and what they could do to communicate more effectively.
The progression from a relaxed icebreaker to paired and parent-child activities allowed confidence to develop naturally throughout the session.
